Derrick Rose on Trae Young shushing MSG crowd: His reaction should be that way

Knicks point guard Derrick Rose doesn't have a problem with Hawks star Trae Young shushing the crowd at Madison Square Garden following Sunday's playoff game.

"The crowd is supposed to do that. His reaction is supposed to be that way and he's supposed to amp up and bring the atmosphere of the environment to where it is right now. That's what I'm used to," Rose said.

"The league got so soft but that's basketball. (Young) came in, he played a great game," he said.

Throughout the night, the crowd of 15,047 chanted "F— Trae Young" throughout the series opener. Young responded with a 32-point, 10-assist, seven-rebound performance, including 13 points in the fourth quarter. He capped it off byknocking down a floater with 0.9 seconds left, spoiling the Knicks' first playoff game in eight years. Atlanta won 107-105.

Immediately after nailing the final shot, Young put a finger to his mouth and shushed the crowd.

Following the game, Young said he considers Knicks fan's cursing and boos "a compliment."

A hostile crowd is something Rose can relate to, adding that he has played in arenas where people have poured beer on his mom.

"Now it's a little different … If you want to talk shit, talk shit. It's alright," he said. "But the next game the environment is going to be tougher and that environment is going to be a great atmosphere for some great basketball."

The Knicks beat the Hawks 101-92 in Game 2 Wednesday night. Following the game, Young walked off the court saying "We'll see you in the A (Atlanta)" while motioning to the crowd. Game 3 is Friday in Atlanta.

What to expect in Game 2?

Mike Vorkunov, Knicks beat writer: Oh, it'll definitely be another emotional night at Madison Square Garden. Sunday's game was a mix of lots of things at once – the return of the Knicks to the playoffs, the return of fans en masse to a game in New York City. It was a thing as much as a game.

This time, the attention will be on the series and the Knicks trying to tie it up. I expect Knicks fans to be as loud as ever and Young to try to quiet them again. Which is great. It's sports and it's entertainment and, really, it's just theater.

Chris Kirschner, Hawks beat writer: I would expect the defensive intensity from the Knicks on Young to increase.

All game the Hawks' point guard was carving the Knicks up in the pick-and-roll. New York has to figure out how to slow him down, otherwise, this might be a quick series and the Knicks will start their offseason.

For the Hawks, they need to continue making life difficult for Julius Randle. Their defense on Randle was excellent and one of the main reasons why Atlanta ended up winning on the road.
